I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)
You have probably heard the following, “the problem with living sacrifices is that they tend to crawl off the altar.” Compounding this is the world’s agenda to shove you off the altar and press you into its mold.
How does one overcome internal and external pressures to vacate the place of submission to God and His plan? The way to stay on the altar is to renew your mind about what it means to be on the altar. The world will argue, seduce, chide and manipulate facts to convince you that the altar is bad for you. But the Word will strengthen your resolve through truth to stand fast.
To “altar” your attitude is to alter your thinking about what it takes to genuinely discover the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. Take the time to read the eleven chapters of Romans that precede the “therefore” of our text. It will renew your mind and attitude.
